India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached nearly 171 crore, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday as more than 48 lakh doses were administered today.
According to official figures, a total of 48,63,548 jobs were given on Tuesday while a total of 1,70,81,56,374 doses were given.
More than 1.56 crore (1,56,97,965) precautionary doses have been administered so far for the identified categories of beneficiaries (HCWs, FLWs and above 60 years) for COVID vaccination.
The daily vaccination numbers are expected to rise with the compilation of the final report for the day by late tonight.
The countrywide vaccination drive was launched on January 16 last year, in which health workers (HCWs) were vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers (FLWs) began on February 2 last year.
The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from March 1, 2021 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions
The country started vaccination for all people over the age of 45 from April 1, 2021.
Following this, the government decided to expand its immunization campaign by allowing everyone above the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1 last year.
The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from January 3 this year for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years.
India began giving precautionary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers, including personnel deployed for election duty and those aged 60 years and above, with comorbidities in the country from January 10, the Omicron version of the coronavirus fueled by Seeing a spike in infections. ,
