Mumbai: 5th-6th lines operational; There will be separate routes for local, express trains

Separation of 5th and 6th line between Thane and Diva on Central Railway after a block of 72 hours Mumbai Network is now complete, allowing for complete separation of suburban and local distance trains, reported the news agency PTI on Tuesday.

With this, more than a decade after the commissioning of the 5th and 6th lines between Kurla and Thane, the route of local and express trains between Kurla and Kalyan, the two major junctions on the network, was completely separated.

An official said, “After the commissioning of the new railway lines, fast suburban trains will run parallel to the existing slow lines between Thane and Diva through Kalwa and Mumbra stations instead of the Parsik tunnel. The tunnel route will be used only for outstation trains. Will be done.” ,

The move is expected to bring relief to the passengers through more services and timely operations.

Shivaji Sutar, Chief Public Relations Officer of CR said, “The work of Thane-Diva 5th and 6th line has been successfully completed. The separation of the corridor will improve punctuality of trains and help us create additional routes for more suburban trains. Will get it.”

Sutar said, “The work of cutting and connecting lines on this section was done by operating various blocks. Major blocks with durations 18, 24, 36, 14 were successfully operated and mega blocks of 72 hours were operated. went.” ,

Work on the 5th and 6th lines between Thane and Diva in 2008-09 under Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase 2 was approved by the Ministry of Railways and the Government of Maharashtra with equal cost-sharing.

The project, which was originally scheduled to be completed in December 2015, saw the construction of a 1.4-km-long rail flyover, three major and 21 minor bridges as well as a 170-metre tunnel.

Amidst the delay, the cost of the project increased by 130 cr to 440 crore, Railway authorities are to acquire 12,962 square meters of land and rehabilitate 469 Project Affected Peoples (PAPs).
