‘More than 61% potholes repaired on Vijayawada roads’

Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi said that the YSRCP government is committed to comprehensively develop the city which was ignored by the previous governments. He said that all the funds available with the civic body are being effectively used for building new roads in the city and repairing the damaged ones.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Ms. Bhagyalakshmi and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundakar said that 6,314 potholes had been identified on city roads, and so far 3,872 (61.3%) of them have been repaired for ₹4.05. done in crores.

He said that work on 1,439 pits is in progress and out of 963 pits are yet to be started and all the pits will be repaired by the end of June.

Mr Swapnil said that new Ganpati Rao Road would be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore and tenders have already been taken for construction of KT Road at a cost of Rs 3 crore.

Mr Swapnil said that scientific testing of the quality of repaired and constructed roads is being done and bills are being paid to the contractors only after meeting the quality standards. He said that the 15th Finance Commission had given Rs 7 crore to take measures to control air pollution in the city.
