More than 70% of unicorns in India are using Slack: Matt Loop

New Delhi Enterprise messaging platform Slack was acquired by US cloud-based software firm Salesforce in 2021 in a deal worth $27.7 billion. While the company’s platform has been operating in India for almost a decade, it established a base this June as well, as it intends to do. More business with small and big companies in the country. In an interview, Matt Loop, Head of Asia-Pacific and Rahul Sharma, Country Manager for Slack, shared the company’s plans for India and talked about the future of work. Edited excerpt:

How’s the uptick in India, and is there any numbers you can share with us in terms of your market share?

the noose: We are just over eight years old. We have a presence in India for over four years, and we have focused on helping people develop relationships not only with customers who have no presence in India, but also with people who are in India. have come in. board recently. So it’s early days. It has been a tool that has always been loved by the technology audience, especially engineers and engineers in India. I think that’s a big contributing factor to the high overall adoption numbers or usage numbers we’ve had in this market over the years. It has always been adopted by fast growing organizations also. Unicorn’s answer is 70% using Slack. For example, Razorpay was a day born in the Slack company. So we are currently focusing on those two audiences.

What about traditional enterprises that are on the way to digital transformation? What challenges do you see there and how do you tackle them?

SharmaWhat we are seeing now is that there is a great need for every organization to start thinking about digital transformation. But there’s also a lot of clutter in what digital transformation looks like. The value that Slack adds is that you don’t have to jump between (multiple) tools but be able to join.

If you sync your calendar to Slack, you should be able to join meetings from Slack itself. People are using Answers out of 50 applications today. And our own research last year showed that knowledge workers are spending an hour a day jumping between the tools they use.

What is Slack’s vision for the future of work, and where do you see it headed in 3-5 years?

the noose: The last two years have been full of challenge and change, but I think some of the things we can count on have changed forever, and we are actively learning, testing, and building our lives today. Partnering with customers to help them through this. One is that flexibility is demanded by employees and will be required by employers. In October last year, we conducted a survey of 2,000 knowledge workers, and they said that 80% of them said they would look for alternatives if they are not allowed flexibility in when and where they work. The second is the need for investment in digital infrastructure and digital headquarters. Two years ago, when the pandemic hit, no company said that everyone gets on email, and that we will survive and thrive by using it. They all turned to platforms like Slack to make a living, and you know, over the past two years, in almost all respects, we’ve actually seen an increase in productivity.
