Mother of 3 in J&K tops Class 10 bi-annual exam

A mother of three children from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district has topped the 10th biennial board examination by securing 93 per cent marks.

Sabrina Khalik, who dropped out after class 9 after her marriage, had made up her mind to study and appear for the exam as a private candidate last year.

“I had to take care of my family. I devoted myself to the family, my children. However, after 10 years, last year I decided to study and take the exam,” said Ms. Khaliq, a resident of Avora village in the remote district. Said said.

She said her family supported her move but it was difficult to juggle between household chores, child care and studies. However, the mother of three – two daughters and a son – was determined.

“It was very difficult, but both my families supported me,” she said.

Ms. Khaliq devoted a few hours a day to prepare for the exam.

“At times, I studied at night. My sisters, my sister-in-law and my husband helped me with my studies,” she said.

His hard work paid off when the results were declared on Tuesday.

“I was overjoyed when the results came out. It was an overwhelming feeling,” she said, adding that she wants to continue her studies.

Ms Khaliq advised other married women to never stop chasing their dreams.

“Don’t stop chasing your dreams, work hard to make them come true,” she said.

Khaliq scored 467 out of 500 – 93.4 per cent and A1 grade in four out of five subjects – Mathematics, Urdu, Science and Social Science.
