The Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board on Thursday issued an order making it mandatory to sing the national anthem in all recognized, aided and unaided madrassas.

Similar demands have emerged in neighboring Madhya Pradesh as well, after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government announced making singing of the national anthem mandatory in state madrassas.

When asked to comment on the UP administration’s move, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr Narottam Mishra on Friday said, “Jana Gana Mana is our national anthem, so it should be sung everywhere.”

He also said that following in the footsteps of Uttar Pradesh was a possible option and the MP government would definitely consider it.

Earlier in the day, BJP state president VD Sharma had also supported the Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s move.

We are not demanding national anthem in Pakistan. We only want to recite the national anthem, Bharat Ki Jai Ho, and Bharat Mata Ki Jai to be chanted in educational institutions of MP, UP and other states. So what’s wrong with that?” said Sharma.

He said that if this decision has been taken then it is a welcome step.

The Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board on Thursday issued an order making it mandatory to sing the national anthem in all recognized, aided and unaided madrassas.
