‘mPassport Police App’ seeks to simplify and speed up the police verification process for passport issuance

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has taken another step towards digitizing the important government service of passport verification by launching ‘mPassport Police App’. The application seeks to simplify and expedite the police verification process for passport issuance.

The passport issuance process includes an important component called police verification, which has undergone several improvements over time. The Ministry has launched “mPassport Police App” to make this important process even faster. This app will allow quick tracking and issuance of passports to citizens.

New digital services were launched at the 76th Raising Day Parade of Delhi Police. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the new services and said that anyone applying for a passport in Delhi will no longer have to wait for 15 days for police verification. The use of tablets during the verification process is expected to reduce the time required for verification from 15 days to 5 days. This will reduce the time taken for issuing passports by 10 days.

The mPassport Police App, developed by the Passport and Visa Division of the Ministry of External Affairs for police agencies, is being distributed to the Special Branch of Delhi Police officers along with 350 tablets.

The app can be accessed by the police to download on tablets, to record inputs and information during on-field verification. The app would be ideal for law enforcement officials who would be visiting residences for address verification.

Tablets now make it possible to eliminate paper from the police report filing and verification process. Apart from improving the accuracy and speed of the passport verification process, the tablets will also enable secure submission of documents in digital format.
