MSP: ‘The stir is not over yet’: SKM carries forward the electoral battle in Uttar Pradesh. India News – Times of India

Lucknow: Not impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to repeal three controversial agriculture laws. United Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday demonstrated a combined strength of 40 farm unions in Lucknow and warned of prolonged agitation for all their six demands, including legal guarantees. MSP The meeting took place on the dismissal of Union junior minister Ajay Mishra Teni for crops and over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
Hundreds of farmers from all over UP and its neighboring states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan, gathered at the Eco Garden in Lucknow for the Kisan Mahapanchayat, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh tickato Declared that the year he had been running the agitation on the Delhi border was not over.
“We haven’t announced a cease-fire yet… ours is on a large scale now,” he said.
The slogan of the mahapanchayat – “MSP nahi toh movement wahi (MSP bandh means agitation on)” – echoed what Tikait said. The SKM threatened to take the agitation to different parts of the country if the demands of the Center were not met. The organization has called a meeting at the Delhi border on November 27 to decide its next course of action.
SKM’s wish list includes repeal of the 2020 electricity bill, withdrawal of cases registered against farmers for stubble burning, rehabilitation of the families of farmers killed during the agitation and a memorial for them in Singhu.
Tikait slammed the BJP and its allies for allegedly diverting people’s attention from the farmers’ protest by raising “communal issues”. In a reference to PM Modi’s “Kuch Log (some people)” explaining why the Center was forced to opt for repeal of agricultural laws, he alleged that it was a ploy to divide farmers.
“With the Prime Minister’s apology, farmers will not get the right price for their produce. They will get this price only when MSP is given legal recognition,” Tikait said. Same recommendation. “The report is still with the PMO and is waiting to be implemented,” he said.
Jai Kisan Andolan Convenor Yogendra Yadav Accused BJP of shielding junior home minister Teni, whose son had allegedly crushed four farmers protesting at Lakhimpur Kheri. Addressing a gathering of farmers, Yadav said, “He is the architect of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.”
Among the farmers who reached the capital of UP from the hinterland were Paramjit Singh, a Sikh from Mahmudabad tehsil of Sitapur. He said farmers were being forced to sell paddy at more than Rs 1,100 per quintal against the MSP of Rs 1,940. Karan Singh, another farmer from Pilibhit, alleged that less than 10% of the total produce procured from farmers was at MSP rates.
The SKM’s belligerent move to convene a mahapanchayat in Lucknow is being seen as hurting the BJP the most, especially with the assembly elections due early next year.
