MSRTC suspends another 3,010 striking workers; JOIN OVER 18,000 DUTY

The strike of the employees demanding the merger of the cash-strapped corporation with the Maharashtra government continued for the 31st day.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on Saturday suspended another 3,010 striking workers and terminated the services of 270 daily wage workers, while over 18,000 employees reported going to work, officials said.

An MSRTC spokesperson said that operations have resumed at 50 of the 250 bus depots in the state. 937 buses including 728 normal buses operated till 5:00 PM

The strike of the employees demanding the merger of the cash-strapped corporation with the Maharashtra government continued for the 31st day.

The corporation has so far suspended 6,277 employees and terminated the services of 1,496 daily wage workers for being absent from work.

Ten bus depots in Sangli division and five bus depots each in Ratnagiri and Raigad divisions remained operational.

Stone pelting was also reported on MSRTC buses at 13 places in Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Solapur and other districts. The windshield and window panes were damaged in some cases, while a driver in Nashik suffered a minor injury to his hand, officials said, adding that police cases have been registered.

Of the 92,266 employees, 18,090 joined duty on Saturday, including 2,130 drivers and 2,112 conductors.

In some depots like Mangaon in Raigad district, all the employees joined the duty.

After a meeting with the MSRTC labor unions action committee on Friday, Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab had appealed to the employees to resume duty and warned of strict action if they are absent from work.
