Mubasina Mohamed of Lakshadweep wins Asian Youth Athletics Championships

Mubasina Mohamed of Lakshadweep Islands won silver medals in long jump and heptathlon at the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Kuwait.

Praful Patel, Administrator of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, where Ms. Mohammad lives, congratulated her on her achievement. A communication from the Lakshadweep administration said a cash prize of ₹10 lakh was announced for him and ₹2.5 lakh for his coach Ahmed Jawad Hasan.

The Administrator of Lakshadweep also said that Ms. Mohamed’s achievement has made the entire country proud, and he hopes that her achievement will inspire and motivate the youth of Lakshadweep to pursue sports and make the country proud. He promised to support the young athletes of Lakshadweep in their efforts to excel in sports.

Ms. Mohammed comes from a modest family. She is the daughter of Mohamed of Minicoy Island and Dubina Bano of Androt Island.

He started his journey in athletics by winning gold medals in long jump, 400m sprint and 4x100m relay at the Inter Junior Basic School Sports Festival, 2013-14. Later, he won a gold medal in the marathon held during the National Minicoy Fest in 2015, 2016 and 2018. She also became Lakshadweep’s first gold medalist in athletics by winning the award at the 65th Kozhikode District Senior and Junior Athletics Championships 2021-22. , Communications said.

He represented India at the 19th International School Sports Federation (ISF) and World School Gymnastics held in Normandy, France.
