Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law will join BJP tomorrow, claims leader

Aparna Yadav is the daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav will join the BJP tomorrow, a senior BJP leader claimed on Tuesday night. Ms. Yadav’s move to the BJP, if it happens, will be a major setback for the Samajwadi Party a few weeks before the state elections.

Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son Akhilesh Yadav has emerged as a major challenger to the ruling BJP in the state. He has also earned the support of several opposition parties – Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP – who are trying to form an anti-BJP front ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Aparna Yadav is the wife of Mulayam Singh’s younger son Prateek. Speculation of him joining the rival party comes just days after three UP ministers and several BJP MLAs quit the ruling party.

Days after their exit, all three former ministers – Swami Prasad Maurya, Dharam Singh Saini and Dara Singh Chouhan – were welcomed into his party by Akhilesh Yadav. Vinay Shakya, Roshan Lal Verma, Mukesh Verma and Bhagwati Sagar were among the MLAs who joined the Samajwadi Party after the exodus.

Days after the major setback, Haryana BJP in-charge Arun Yadav tweeted in Hindi on Tuesday night: “Aparna Yadav, wife of Prateek, younger son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, will join the BJP. Tomorrow at 10 am in the presence of Yogi Adityanath.”

NDTV tried to contact Aparna Yadav for confirmation. A WhatsApp message sent to him was read by him but a reply is awaited.
