Multi-agency investigation into Pandora Papers

New Delhi The government on Monday ordered a multi-agency probe under the supervision of the Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT chairman JB Mohapatra). leaked documents This shows how prominent Indians are allegedly using tax havens to evade tax.

The Government of India is also part of an inter-governmental group that ensures cooperation and experience sharing to effectively address the tax risks associated with such leaks,” the finance ministry said.

The multi-agency probe will also have representatives from the CBDT, the Enforcement Directorate, the Reserve Bank of India and the Financial Intelligence Unit.

However, the Finance Ministry said that the names of only a few Indians (legal entities as well as individuals) have appeared in the media so far. “Even the ICIJ website (www.icij.org) has not yet released the names and other details of all the entities. The ICIJ website suggests that the information will be released in phases and that structured data related to the Pandora Papers investigation will be released to its Offshore Leaks database in the coming days.”
