Mumbai:

Union Minister Raosaheb Danve today announced that the fares of air-conditioned local trains in Mumbai will be reduced by 50 percent.

The Minister of State for Railways made this announcement at the inauguration of the renovated heritage building of Byculla railway station in the presence of Maharashtra’s Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis.

Mr Danve said the existing minimum fare of Rs 65 will be reduced to Rs 30 for a distance of 5 km.

The minister said there was a long pending demand of the public to reduce the fares of air-conditioned local trains in Mumbai and they had received suggestions to reduce the existing fare by at least 20-30 per cent.

Danve, however, did not specify when the fare revision would come into effect.

About 80 air-conditioned local train services are operated on daily basis on both Central and Western Railway.
