The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert warning of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Mumbai and adjoining districts for the next 24 hours.

In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for July 1 and 2, as the meteorological department has predicted heavy rain at some places in the city.

IMD Mumbai has forecast moderate to heavy rain with the possibility of “occasional intense rain” at isolated places over the city for 24 hours from Friday morning.

Meanwhile, heavy rains continued in Mumbai on Thursday as well.

According to official data, the island city received 119.09 mm of rain, followed by 78.69 mm in the western suburbs and 58.40 mm in the eastern suburbs, in the 12-hour period from 8 am to 8 pm.

Before 8 am, the island city, western suburbs and eastern parts had received 36.72 mm, 45.75 mm and 41.47 mm of rainfall respectively in 24 hours.

There were two incidents of building collapse in Kalbadevi and Sion areas amid incessant rains. However, officials said there were no casualties and people were safely evacuated from the affected structures.

Meanwhile, parts of the city witnessed flooding, forcing the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) to divert over 12 bus routes.

Buses were diverted on more than 12 routes due to waterlogging at four to five places in the city, an official said.

Railway officials claimed that suburban trains were running normally.

Shivaji Sutar, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway tweeted, “Heavy rains lashing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar, Byculla & Kurla sections. Trains are running.”

However, some passengers claimed that train services were delayed by five to 15 minutes due to heavy rains.
