Mumbai, Konkan regions to experience rains weekend; Is this cyclone impact?

With India Meteorological Department predicting the formation of a low-pressure area in the Arabain Sea by June 7, citing Cyclone Biperjoy, Mumbai, Thane, and Konkan areas will receive rains by the end of this week.

As per IMD, the cyclonic circulation is most likely to develop over the South-East Arabian Sea from 5-7 June, leading to heavy rains and flash floods in Maharashtra’s Mumbai and Konkan regions.

Apart from this, the sea surface temperature of the Arabian Sea is around 31 degrees Celcius, while for a cyclone to form, it needs to be above 27 degrees.

Also, the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) says AQI in Mumbai is currently in the ‘good’ category, with a reading of 39.

The IMD had said maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 34°C and 28°C.
