Mumbai local for time management: Thyrocare founder prefers train over car

Thyrocare founder Dr Arokiaswamy Velumani on Saturday tweeted that one needs to travel by the local train in Mumbai over costly car rides, in order to prioritise time management and economical travel. For a recent trip across the city, Dr Velumani said that the time for the journey covered by a car showed 70 minutes, however, he covered the same trip by Mumbai local in just 18 minutes.

Sharing his experience on Twitter, Dr Velumani wrote, ‘’However costly the car is, in Mumbai for time management, just board a Local. Mumbai #Borivali. Car showed 70 mins. Train took 18 mins.”

Velumani had started Thyrocare in 1996 and revealed that taking entrepreneurship was one of the longest decisions of his life — it took him four hours to decide, while talking to YourStory. In comparison, taking Thyrocare public in 2016 was a 30-minute decision, and closing a 4,546 crore deal with PharmEasy took him one minute. The healthtech unicorn had acquired 66.1 per cent stake in Thyrocare.

He completed his education and got a job first with a pharmaceutical company in Coimbatore and then with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai. With an initial investment of 1 lakh, Velumani and his wife set up the first Thyrocare lab in Byculla, Mumbai. Cut to 2020, Thyrocare posted revenues of 474 crore, up by 18 per cent, according to Indiatimes, while profits grew by 51 per cent to 119.7 crore.
