Mumbai man arrested for raping 21-year-old woman on the pretext of marriage

Mumbai:

A Mumbai man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman on the pretext of marriage. The police gave this information on Friday.

The accused, identified as Brijesh Pal (22), has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim at Didosi police station in Mumbai.

In her complaint to the police, the victim has alleged that the accused had a physical relationship with her for a year on the pretext of marrying her. He later refused to marry her, police said.

Left with no other option, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint against him.

According to the police, a case of rape has been registered under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the accused has been taken into custody.

Officials said the accused was produced before the court and remanded to police custody.
