Some passengers can also be heard alerting each other when this happens.

The train collided with the express due to SPAD. However, considering the low speed of both the trains, the damage was minimal and there were no casualties. Senior officials of the Central Railway said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident and that prima facie it could be a human error, but it could not be confirmed.

Shivani Sutar, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway said, “A departmental inquiry will be conducted to ascertain the cause of the incident. The report will answer the question whether it was a human error or not.”

“As per our normal procedure, after any accident, the pilot or motorman is put off duty. The same thing happened in this incident as well,” Sutar said.

In a letter issued by the Controller of Chief Crew to Loco Pilot, it said, “While operating on train number 11139, the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot failed to obey the red aspects of the signal. As a result, a side collision occurred.”

Till Saturday morning, around 300 to 400 railway personnel were present where the railing work was going on.

“One of the three derailed coaches was re-railed during the night, but the rest took time due to technical challenges,” an official said.

Due to the derailment, local train services between CSMT and Dadar railway station were suspended for some time. Since the derailment caused overhead wires to stop, local trains on Central Railway are running late.

According to railway officials, both up and down slow lines were made operational between CSMT and Kalyan at around 10.45 pm. The up-fast line between Kalyan and CSMT was made operational at around 8.30 am on Saturday and the down-fast line was made operational by noon on Saturday and services were pushed back to normalcy.

However, many slow and fast trains were running late by 15 to 20 minutes and many suburban stations were overcrowded on Saturday morning. Due to this, CR ran bus services from Thane and Mulund towards CSMT to decongest the suburban railway stations.

Meanwhile, Chief Public Relations Officer, Shivaji Sutar also tweeted, “Restoration work is complete and all lines have been restored on the affected Dn fast line 22159 CSMT – 1st train at Chennai passing Matunga station at 1.10 pm.”
