Mumbai to host 2nd G-20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting on May 23-25

New Delhi The Home Ministry said that the second meeting of the G-20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from May 23 to 25 and preparations are underway to ensure its success.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal called a meeting at the BMC headquarters today to review the preparations being made by the BMC and other agencies for the event, which is expected to be attended by over 120 members.

Mumbai’s achievements in disaster management have been lauded both nationally and internationally, and the upcoming meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group of the G-20 Council presents an opportunity to showcase these achievements to the world.

During the review meeting, Chahal stressed the importance of maintaining proper coordination among all the agencies involved and completing all the pending works within the stipulated time frame.

He urged the concerned departments to timely complete the works related to roads, cleanliness and beautification in their jurisdiction and took into account the experiences of the dignitaries during the previous G-20 meetings in the city.

On the sidelines of the G-20 meeting, the working group representatives will visit the BMC headquarters to inspect the Disaster Management Department’s control room and participate in the Heritage Walk of the historic Municipal Building.

Consequently, Chahal directed that all ongoing renovation works at BMC Headquarters building be completed in time with good coordination with all other stakeholder agencies.

A total of three working group meetings of the G-20 Council are being held in Mumbai in the month of May. In view of this, the BMC Commissioner said that the concerned departments should complete the works of roads, cleanliness, beautification etc. coming under their jurisdiction on time and also the experience of the dignitaries during the previous G-20 meetings in the city. Must be kept in mind.

He also said that preparations in this regard would be reviewed next week.
