‘Mumbai vibes’: Auto rickshaw driver gives student a ride in New York City

Traveling in an auto rickshaw is quite common in Mumbai and a habit rejected by more than half of its drivers. Auto-rickshaw rides are popular with Mumbaikars as the city’s vada pav is known for its uniqueness and popularity. But, it is not common to see auto rickshaws in a foreign country. In a recent video that went viral on social media, an auto-rickshaw driver gave a ride to a student in New York City in his three-wheeler.

The clip was shared by the auto-rickshaw driver who, according to his Instagram bio, “landed in New York – all the way from Bombay!” In the video, he can be seen driving through New York City in his auto rickshaw with an Indian song playing inside. He gave a ride to a student in NYC for some proper ‘Mumbai vibes’. The caption of the sweet video reads, “A nice day to be out in the rickshaw today… loved meeting @ken___25603 and take him for a ride through #York for some #Mumbai vibes” .

The video caught the attention of desi users, who gave funny reactions in the comments section. “Next level,” commented a user, while another wrote, “Ah I would love to sit back and listen to “Main Jis Bhula Doon” by Amit Kumar. A therapeutic drive and experience I can imagine.”

Even the student, who was mentioned in the caption about her lovely meeting with the rickshaw puller, thanked him for the ride. “Thanks a lot bro for the ride again,” he wrote.

Users also started asking funny questions to the driver as one of them said, “Bhai, Bandra station tak kitna hoga?”. There is a local railway station at Bandra and another western railway station at Mumbai. An online user also asked, “Brother. How much is York to Leeds?” to which the driver replied, “We’ll have to go by the meter bro”.

Isn’t it great how an auto-rickshaw driver from Mumbai is serving people in New York City while keeping his desi culture intact? Some countries call auto-rickshaws tuk-tuks which are used as a cheap means of public transport.
