Mumbai weather update today: Waterlogging in many areas, heavy rain forecast

Mumbai and many other cities of Maharashtra have been receiving heavy rains for the past few days.

The Mumbai Regional Meteorological Center on Wednesday issued a heavy rain alert for Mumbai, Thane and other parts of Maharashtra for the next five days.

The department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and Thane till July 10. Meanwhile, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are on Red Alert till July 9 and Orange Alert on July 10. Palghar is on red alert on 8th July.

“Extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Palghar on Friday,” the Regional Meteorological Center said.

As heavy rains lashed the metropolis, severe waterlogging was recorded in many parts of Mumbai on Wednesday.

Waterlogging was recorded in Dadar and Sion areas and Powai lake started in spate due to rain on Tuesday evening.

The capital city has been receiving heavy rains since Monday, after which the areas were inundated and traffic was affected.

A landslide occurred when a house collapsed amid heavy rains on Tuesday in Panchsheel Nagar of Ghatkopar, Mumbai. And on Wednesday, a landslide was reported near Pratapgarh Fort in Maharashtra’s Satara district, though no casualties have been reported so far. There is no news.

Several rivers in the state have reached the warning level. Kundalika river has crossed the warning level and the water level of Amba, Savitri, Patalganga, Ulhas and Garhi rivers is slightly below the warning level.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has put all the districts on high alert and is monitoring the situation. He directed the officials to make all arrangements, including the transfer of people living in sensitive areas.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 17 teams in areas of Maharashtra that have reported heavy to very heavy rains. (ANI)
