Mumbaikars will have to pay more for CNG, piped LPG as Mahanagar Gas hikes prices

Mumbaikars will now have to pay more for compressed natural gas and piped cooking gas (Piped Natural Gas-PNG) from November 5. A month after the hike in prices by up to Rs 6, Mahanagar Gas Limited has announced a hike in prices. Again up to Rs.3.50. Now, CNG will cost Rs 89.5 per kg while PNG will cost Rs 54 per scm (standard cubic metre).

Earlier, the price hike was done on October 3. Mahanagar Gas last month raised the retail price of compressed natural gas by Rs 6 per kg and that of piped natural gas by Rs 4/scm, taking the price of CNG to Rs 86 per kg and that of PNG by Rs. 52.50/scm.

With this, Indraprastha Gas Limited is also expecting an increase in its prices for the Delhi-NCR region.

With this increase, the savings in prices between CNG and petrol have come down to around 42 per cent, while that of PNG and LPG have come down to around nine per cent. Thus, users who can switch to the cheaper option may not save much on petrol and LPG as compared to their earlier expenditure.

The price of petrol in Mumbai was Rs 106.31 per liter while the price of diesel was Rs 94.27 per litre.

Mahangar Gas supplies PNG to 1.98 million households and over 4,000 small commercial and 360 industrial establishments in Mumbai and neighboring areas. MGL distributes CNG through its 296 CNG pumps located across the city including Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Navi Mumbai, Greater Mumbai and Panvel.
