Mumbai’s dabbawalas will give this gift to King Charles on his coronation

On May 6, Westminster Abbey in London will be the site of the formal coronation of 74-year-old King Charles as monarch. Mumbai’s dabbawalas, known worldwide for their lunchbox delivery and return system, will present the king with a Puneri turban and a shawl from the Warkari community.

The Puneri turban is a unique style of turban, which was given Geographical Indication status in 2009, and is considered a symbol of pride and honor in Pune. According to Mumbai Dabbawalas spokesperson Vishnu Kaldoke, they received invitations from the British Consulate and the British Embassy.

“Mumbai dabbawalas have had good relations with the British royalty. Two dabbawalas were invited to his wedding. It was an honor for us. He is going to be king. So, we presented King Charles with a puneri turban and a shawl.” Want to meet the Warkari community,” Kaldok said while speaking to ANI.
