Mundra Port Drugs Seizure Case: NIA Arrests Afghan National From Delhi

Mundra Port Drugs Case: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday informed that it has arrested an Afghan national from Delhi in connection with the seizure of 3,000 kg heroin from the Mundra Port in Gujarat.

The Afghan national, identified as Shobhan Aryanfar, a resident of Neb Sarai in South Delhi, was arrested on December 12, the agency said in a statement shared on Twitter.

The NIA had registered a case related to the seizure of 2988.21 kg of heroin seized at the Mundra port in Gujarat, involving the purchase and delivery of consignments to foreign nationals. The drugs were shaped by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in September, but the NIA took over the investigation in October.

So far 10 people have been arrested in this case. Of these, five are Afghans and one is an Uzbek national. The total seizure now stands at 3,004 kg.

The central agency had raided five places in Delhi-NCR on October 12. Searches were conducted in residential complexes and godowns at Lajpat Nagar, Alipore, Khera Kalan, New Delhi and Noida in connection with seizure of semi-processed talc stones along with imported banned drugs by Ashi Trading Company.

Just three days before this, the agency conducted raids in Chennai, Coimbatore, Vijayawada at the premises of the accused and suspects involved in the import of semi-processed talcum stones.

The narcotic drugs were found hidden in an import consignment of ‘semi-processed talc stones’ coming from Afghanistan, which had arrived from Iran’s Bandar Abbas Port.
