Mundra Port Drugs Seizure | NIA searches in NCR

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday conducted raids at several places in the National Capital Region. Recent seizure of 2,988 kg Heroin was found at the Mundra port in Gujarat, an official said.

An NIA official had said that the case pertains to the seizure of 2,988.21 kg of narcotic substance (heroin) at the Mundra port and the involvement of foreign nationals in the purchase and distribution of the consignment.

On 13 September, the DRI detained two containers that had arrived at Mundra port from Kandahar in Afghanistan via Iran’s Bandar Abbas port.

The declaration accompanying the containers claimed that they contained “semi-processed talc”.

However, a thorough investigation revealed that the two containers actually contained 2,988 kg of heroin worth Rs 21,000 crore, which was concealed in the “bottom layers” of “jumbo bags” with talcum stones, an official release said.

After the DRI arrested eight people, including five foreign nationals, in connection with the seizure of drugs, the NIA conducted searches at the premises of the accused in Chennai, Coimbatore and Vijayawada.
