Munich: One killed, 14 injured in commuter train collision near Munich – Times of India

Frankfurt: One person was killed and 14 injured when two commuter trains collided on Monday Munich in the south GermanyPolice said.
The cause of the accident was not immediately clear at around 16:40 p.m. (1540 GMT) local time.
Photos in local media showed passengers standing beside the track after the collision, with at least one partially derailed vehicle visible.
“One person killed in two collision” s-bahn Trains,” tweeted Munich Police.
Another 14 people were injured, a police spokesman told AFP.
The accident occurred near the S-Bahn urban railway station of Ebenhausen-Schaftlarn, south-west of Munich, when two commuter trains collided head-on on the same track line.
More than 200 rescuers and police were sent to the scene.
According to police, an injured man was initially trapped in a vehicle, but was later freed.
Germany’s best-selling newspaper Bild reported that there were about 95 passengers on both trains, and that a train driver was trapped in the damaged wreckage.
Following the incident the rail route in the Bavaria region of Germany was closed and a rail replacement bus service was in operation.
Passengers on the trains told the local Merkur newspaper that they had been hit hard and were thrown forward in their seats.

According to local radio, two S-Bahn trains nearly collided in the same area last August, but both drivers were able to apply the brakes in time.
