Election The Commission (EC) on Friday issued a notice to Telangana Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy for allegedly intimidating voters, asking them not to vote for the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate in the upcoming Munugode bypoll. If so, all welfare schemes will be stopped.

The poll panel has given Reddy time till 3 pm on Saturday to explain his stand, or else he will take a decision without his reference.

Quoting a complaint submitted by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, the notice quotes the English translation of the minister’s speech, in which he said, “The election is not between Kusukuntala Prabhakar Reddy and Rajagopal Reddy, it is an election.” whether to do or not. Whether to continue the pension of Rs 2,000, whether to continue Rythu Bandhu or not, whether to continue 24 hours free electricity or not…” “…. Can vote, if anyone wants schemes then vote for KCR (Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao).

The notice said that the speech made by Reddy on October 25 is prima facie violative of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct, which states that all political parties and candidates should refrain from all activities which constitute “corrupt practice under the Election Act”. And there are crimes. Like bribing voters, intimidating voters, impersonating voters….” The by-election is to be held on November 3.
