Munugodu by-election: TRS names Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate; KTR sheds tears in BJP

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Friday declared former MLA Kusukuntala Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate for the upcoming bypoll in Munugodu constituency.

Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao finalized the candidature after holding discussions with party leaders earlier in the day.

Reddy has been with the party since its interception and was an MLA from Munugodu constituency from 2014 to 2018.

In the 2018 elections, he contested from the same constituency and lost to Congress Party candidate Komatreddy Rajagopal Reddy with a majority of 22,552 votes.

The upcoming by-election was necessitated after Komatreddy Rajagopal Reddy resigned from the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also resigned from his post in the legislature.

Welcoming the announcement, TRS working president and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao exuded confidence of winning the by-polls with a thumping majority.

Citing a recent survey report, he said the party is ahead by 13 per cent and the BJP and Congress will have to fight for the second spot. “We have intensified the operation in Munugodu. All important leaders were deployed for the campaign.” he adds.

He alleged that the BJP was spending around Rs 500 crore for the elections and was also planning to spend Rs 25,000 to 30,000 per vote.

“Rajagopal Reddy joined BJP to get contract worth Rs 22,000 crore to his company Sushi Infra. People have to think about it. It is a fight between money power and self-respect of the people.”

While the BJP is yet to officially announce its candidate, Rajagopal Reddy’s candidature has almost been finalized by the party.

Meanwhile, Palvai Shravanthi, daughter of senior Congress leader Palvai Govardhan Reddy, will contest as a Congress candidate.

Central Election The commission has announced the schedule of Munugodu by-election. The nomination process has started from today and the voting will take place on November 3. The results will be declared on November 6.
