‘My last season’: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza reveals her retirement plans

ace tennis star of india Sania Mirza announced on Wednesday that 2022 will be her final season on the WTA Tour after she and her Ukrainian partner Nadia Kichenok suffered an opening round loss in the women’s doubles event of the ongoing Australian Open.

“There are a few reasons for this. It’s not as simple as ‘Okay, I’m not going to play.’ I’m putting it, it’s something that I have to keep in mind,” Mirza said after his match.

“I feel like my body is deteriorating. My knee was hurting a lot today and I’m not saying that’s why we lost, but I think it’s okay as I get older.” It’s taking time to happen.”

She said that finding the motivation to come out and play every day is no longer the same for her.

“There are more days than ever where I don’t feel like doing it. I’ve always said I’ll play until I enjoy that grind, a process I’m not sure I enjoy that much anymore I’m taking it,” said Mirza.

“Having said that, I still want to play the season because I am enjoying it so much to play the year. I worked very hard to get back, get fit, lose weight and set a good example for moms-to-be. Of course, new moms follow their dreams as much as possible. Beyond this season, I don’t feel like my body is doing it. It’s green,” she added.

The Indian tennis player has won six Grand Slams and reached the pinnacle of the WTA doubles rankings. Mirza is also the first Indian to break into the top 30 in the WTA singles rankings.
