Lahore: Terming the FIR registered against him in the attempt to murder case as “ridiculous”, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said he will present his case through his lawyers. In the FIR registered by the Punjab Police, Naveed Mohammad Bashir has been named as the prime accused in the case. Police said they arrested Bashir from the scene after he confessed to the crime. In a confessional video, Bashir said he attacked Khan because he was “misleading the public”., However, it did not mention the names of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and senior Pakistan Army officer Major General Faisal Naseer, three people who were accused by Khan of plotting his assassination.

The FIR was registered after the Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Punjab government to register an FIR on Khan for attempt to murder within 24 hours.
On Sunday, Khan had said that an FIR has not been registered over the failed “attempt to murder” on his life as officials are refusing to register a case unless he removes the army general’s name from the complaint. .
The 70-year-old PTI chief was shot in the right leg last Thursday When two gunmen opened fire on him and others in Wazirabad area of Punjab province where he was leading a protest march against the Shahbaz Sharif government.
During interrogation, Bashir admitted to firing at the container of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chief. Bashir told investigators that he did so because he was disappointed that Khan was misleading the country and had even committed blasphemy.
However, police believe that Bashir was a drug addict and that his statements regarding the incident were “suspicious”.
