Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and other leaders paid for Thursday, September 8, 2022 Tribute to singer Bhupen Hazarika Remembering his “amazing” contribution to music and art on his birth anniversary.

Bharat Ratna awardee Hazarika was born in Sadiya, Assam. On September 8, 1926.

“I bow to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, a wonderful musician with an extraordinary voice, on his birth anniversary. With his versatile and mesmerizing songs, he popularized Indian music and Assamese folk culture across the world. His contribution to the world of music and art is commendable,” Mr Shah tweeted.

In his tweet, Mr Nadda said that Hazarika was the “voice of many hearts” with his scintillating compositions.

“I pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary. He was a great musician who will always be remembered for his indelible contribution to Indian and Assamese music. He became the voice of many hearts with his scintillating creations, which are now immortal,” Mr Nadda said in a tweet.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said Hazarika’s everlasting songs carried the message of humanity and brotherhood across borders.

He tweeted, “…My tributes to the Bard of the Brahmaputra, Bharat Ratna, Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary.”

Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju said Hazarika will always be with the people.

“I pay homage to the great musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary. Bhupen da will always be with us. This is one of those many beautiful songs composed by Bhupen da about Arunachal Pradesh,” he wrote in Hazarika’s take on Arunachal Pradesh. Tweeted with a song.

Rijiju hails from Arunachal Pradesh.

Hazarika was a playback singer, composer, lyricist, poet, actor and film producer. He was awarded the National Film Award for Music Direction in 1975, Padma Shri in 1977, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1992 and Padma Bhushan in 2001.

He also served as the President of the Sangeet Natak Akademi for five years.

Hazarika died on 5 November 2011.,
