Nagaland Civil Society Group opposes Republic Day celebrations over firing incident

A civil society group in Nagaland – the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization – has urged people not to participate in the Republic Day celebrations in the state’s eastern belt, as 14 civilians were killed in protest against an operation by security forces. , ENPO is the main civic body of the six eastern Nagaland districts – Mon, Kiphir, Tuensang, Phek, Noklak and Longleng.

In a letter on Friday, the civil society group recalled the resolution taken in the joint consultation meeting by all eastern Nagaland civil societies on December 14 last year at Longleng regarding the firing incident.

According to sources, the state government has not deputed any minister or MLA for any program on Republic Day in Mon district, where the firing took place.

It was resolved that the people of eastern Nagaland would “extend non-cooperation to the security forces” until justice was delivered to the families of the victims, and the Nagas in particular, until the innocent public in Mon district of Nagaland was served. Justice is not done against horrific murders. by security forces on 4th and 5th December, 2021. Non-cooperation shall be in the form of “abstaining from any national function, or such activities”.

On the other hand, the Nagaland government on Friday approved the appointment of family members of the victims to vacant posts in state offices and departments.

The order issued by Nagaland Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha said that the state government has approved the appointment of family members of the 12 victims.

On December 4 and 5 last year, 14 civilians and a security personnel were killed in incidents of violent shootings in Mon district.

They will be appointed on class IV posts in various offices of state government departments in Som district.
