A top health department official said that in order to provide better health services to the people of the state, the Nagaland government is taking all steps to start the first medical college and launch the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) this year. He said that the state government already has 60 posts of senior faculty for the medical college, while other posts will be created over time.

The second initiative will be the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme, which was announced by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in his budget speech in March this year. The aim is to cover the entire population with Rs 5 lakh for each patient, he said, adding that the health department is working on all aspects with a target to launch the scheme by October.

“With the medical college, there will be more professional doctors in the state but with the insurance scheme we will be able to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and provide better treatment,” he said, adding that the two initiatives are aimed at making quality healthcare easily accessible in the state, Bhatia said.
