New Delhi: The Center on Monday expressed regret Lok Sabha on the killing of 14 civilians in Nagaland during a security operation and said it was a case of “misidentification”.

The Government of India deeply regrets the unfortunate incident in Nagaland and also expresses deep condolences to the bereaved families.
, Army Movement of extremists was reported near Tiru, Som. On the same basis, a unit of 21 Para Commandos of the Army ambushed the suspected area. A vehicle reached there, signaled him to stop but he tried to run away. Suspected of carrying extremists, he was fired upon.
6 out of 8 people in the vehicle died. It was later found that it was a case of mistaken identity. Two others who were injured were taken to the nearest health center by the army. On receiving the news, the local villagers surrounded the army unit, torched two vehicles and attacked them.
– As a result, one of the security forces personnel was killed; Several other injured security forces had to resort to firing in self-defence and to disperse the crowd. This resulted in the death of 7 more civilians, injuring some others. The local administration and police tried to normalize the situation.
After the incident, on the evening of December 5, an angry mob of about 250 people ransacked the operating base (COB) of the company. Assam Rifles Set fire to the city of Mon and the COB building. Assam Rifles had to open fire to disperse the crowd. Another civilian died as a result.
SIT has been asked to complete the investigation within a month after investigating the Nagaland incident.
It has been decided that all agencies should ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not recur in future while carrying out such campaigns. The government is closely monitoring the incident and necessary measures are being taken to ensure peace in the area.
