Nagpur: Setting benchmark, city police transferred 837 policemen in three hours. Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur : City Police Station Amitesh Kumar Around 837 policemen were transferred in an unprecedented manner in about three hours. After a brief interview on the spot the police were mostly offered ‘choice postings’ based on the vacancies available in police stations, traffic or crime branch.
Kumar, assembling the police at the gymkhana, finished the annual general transfers within a short time and asked each of them about their priorities.
Police were allotted postings of their choice or asked to make other choices when there were vacancies in the destination unit.
After 2020 and 2021, this was the third year in which general transfers were conducted by CPs and other top brass officials by conducting a short personal interview with the constabulary and other cops who were eligible for transfers.
Kumar said the idea behind conducting normal transfers on the spot and in the presence of all was to encourage transparency in the system. Kumar said, “Earlier, normal transfers were under the jurisdiction of clerical staff. The process was beset with controversies, especially allegations that we wanted to stop.”
The CP said that a display of strength and vacancies of police stations was kept at the venue, which was revised in the presence of everyone, when one was being deployed at such places. “We tried to accommodate as many policemen as possible on postings of their choice,” the top cop said.
