The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has declared 524 buildings as dangerous after a detailed survey, news agency PTI has reported citing the civic body.
Of the 524 buildings, 61 buildings fall under C-1 category which indicate most dangerous, unfit for occupation and require immediate demolition, 114 are in C-2A category which states the building need to be vacated and structural repairs required).
About 300 buildings fall under C-2B category which indicate that repairs works are required without vacating and 49 of them fall under C-3 category. This indicate that these 49 building need only minor repairs, in a release, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar said.
As per the civic body, power and water supply to buildings classified under the C-1 category will be immediately disconnected. These buildings need to be razed immediately.
As per the release, the owners and occupants of the dangerous buildings have been asked to vacate the premises to avert any accident and loss of life.
The occupants of buildings in categories other than C-1 need to carry out the repairs and reoccupy after the civic body certifies them as fit for occupation, it added.
Not just in Navi Mumbai, earlier this month, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) had also declared about 294 buildings as dangerous and had issued notice to them, a report by FPJ stated. Of these 294, eight of them were declared as extremely dangerous after which UMC assistant commissioner Ganesh Shimpi issued an order of demolition, the report stated. He further told the daily that 50 of the 294 buildings were suggested to be repaired after vacating them and 214 buildings were suggested to be repaired without vacating while 22 of them needed minor repairs.
