Navratri 2021 Start and End Date: Day Wise Timing, History and Significance of 9 Days

Navratri is an important Hindu festival celebrated over nine nights and 10 days, during which nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped. This festival signifies the victory of good over evil. According to the Mahakal Samhita, there are four Navratri in the Vedic calendar namely Sharad Navratri, Chaitra Navratri, Magha Gupta Navratri and Ashadha Gupta Navratri. The Navratri that usually falls in September-October is known as Sharad Navratri. This is the most important Navratri which is celebrated all over the country with great enthusiasm and enthusiasm.

Navratri 2021: History

According to Hindu legends, Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva combined their powers to create Goddess Durga to defeat the demon king Mahishasura after invading Triloka – Earth, Heaven and Hell. No one could defeat Mahishasura because Lord Brahma had given him the wish that he could be defeated only by a woman. After a long battle of 15 days, Goddess Durga killed him with her trident on the day of Mahalya.

Navratri 2021: Significance

Nine different incarnations of Goddess Durga are worshiped during Navratri.

The first day is dedicated to Goddess Shailputri, 2Ra to Brahmacharini, 3third Chandraghanta is on the fourth day, Kushmanda is on the 5th day, Skandmata is on the 5th day, Katyayani on the 6th day, Kalratri on the 7th day, Mahagauri on the 8th day and Siddhidatri on the 9th day.

It is believed that worshiping these nine incarnations of Goddess Durga during Navratri brings prosperity, health and wisdom to the devotees in their lives.

Navratri 2021: Day wise auspicious time

day 1: The first day of Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana which falls on Pratipada Tithi. Pratida date will be from 04:34 hrs, 6th October to 01:46 hrs, 7th October. The auspicious timing of Ghatasthapana is from 06:17 AM to 07:07 AM and 11:45 AM to 12:32 PM on 7th October. .

second day: Dwitiya Tithi is falling on 8th October as it will start on 7th October at 01:46 PM and will continue till 10:48 AM on 8th October.

day 3: Tritiya Tithi will be from 10:48 am, 8th October to 07:48 am, 9th October.

Day 4: Chaturthi Tithi timings are from 07:48 am, 9th October to 04:55 am, 10th October.

Day 5: Panchami Tithi will be from 04:55 am on 10th October to 02:14 am on 11th October.

Day 6: Shashthi Tithi will be from 02:14 am to 11:50 pm on October 11.

Day 7: Saptami of Navratri will be celebrated on 12th October as it will start on 11th October at 11:50 pm and will go till 09:47 pm on 12th October.

Day 8: Ashtami Tithi which is also known as Mahashtami or Maha Durgashtami will run from 09:47 pm, 12 October to 08:07 pm, 13 October. It is one of the most important days of Navratri.

Day 9: Navami Tithi or Mahanavami is the day when Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasura. It will be effective from 08:07 pm, October 13 to 06:52 pm, October 14.

Day 10: Dashami Tithi or Vijayadashami is the last day of Navratri. It is also known as Dussehra and celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura. It will start at 06:52 PM on 14th October and will continue till 06:02 PM on 15th October.
