This was Chopra’s first outing in an international competition since his historic gold medal-winning throw of 87.58m at the Tokyo Olympics on August 7, 2021.

In the 89.30m throw he finished second on the podium at the Pavo Nurmi Games behind Finnish favorite Oliver Helender, who achieved a personal best of 89.93m. Meanwhile, world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished third with a throw of 86.60m.

Neeraj threw 86.69m in difficult and wet conditions to bag the top prize. Chopra got off to a good start in rainy conditions but was fouled in his second throw.

The Indian javelin thrower reached the spot in his first attempt at the tournament, fouled on his second attempt, and bore a bad slip in his third attempt, after which he decided to skip the remaining two attempts.
