Neeraj Chopra wins Lausanne Diamond League title, finishes first with a throw of 89.08m

Olympic champion and javelin thrower once again Neeraj Chopra Created history as he became the first Indian to win the Diamond League meeting title by winning the Lausanne League. According to news agency PTI, in his first attempt, he threw a javelin of 89.08 meters to seal his victory in his own style.

Last month, 24-year-old Indian athlete, Neeraj Chopra, was ruled out of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games after he suffered a minor injury while winning silver during the World Championships last month. He rested and made a historic comeback after a month.

His throw of 89.08m was the third best effort of his career, followed by his second throw of 85.18m. However, his fourth throw was a foul and he again passed his fifth attempt before coming up with 80.04m in the sixth and final round. And the young player from Haryana became the first Indian to win the Diamond League crown.

After the event, Chopra was quoted by PTI as saying, “I am very happy with my result today. The throw of 89m is a great performance. I am glad I am coming back from injury and a good indicator tonight I was fine. I was a little nervous today because earlier I had to pull out of the Commonwealth Games due to injury.

24 year old boyChopra qualified for the Diamond League final in Zurich on 7 and 8 September, becoming the first Indian to do so. Despite the win, they remain fourth on Friday with 15 points from eight points. The top six after the Lausanne leg qualified for the Zurich final.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Jacob Wadledge finished second with a best throw of 85.88m, followed by USA’s Curtis Thompson with a best effort of 83.72m.

In July this year, Chopra also created a historic moment for India by winning a silver in the javelin throw final by becoming only the second Indian and the first male track and field athlete to win a medal at the World Championships.
