NEET Exam: Tamil Nadu CM introduces bill in the assembly to exempt the state from the exam

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today introduced a bill in the Assembly seeking permanent exemption to the state from NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).

MK Stalin said in the assembly, ‘Today I have moved a resolution against NEET. You (AIADMK) also brought this proposal. I urge the opposition parties to extend their support to this resolution.”

“We took steps to cancel the NEET exam as soon as we came to power. The government is taking all constructive steps to cancel the NEET exam and enroll students in medical education on the basis of class 12 marks. I request all of you to support the Bill (seeking permanent exemption from NEET),” Stalin further said.

“You (AIADMK) were in alliance with the Centre, you are still there. When it came to voting for CAA and agriculture laws, you should have made a condition of exemption from NEET. You didn’t have the courage to raise your voice, you ruled in silence till the death of the candidates,” MK Stalin said in the assembly

NEET is an all India level entrance exam for undergraduate medical courses. This year the exam was conducted on 12th September across the country.

“We are against National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), we do not want NEET. We want our students to be given a fair chance and equal opportunity. This is against social justice,” said Kanimozhi, DMK MP in Chennai.

Meanwhile, former Tamil Nadu chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Edappadi K Palaniswami said he would support the NEET proposal.

“The students did not prepare well for the exam as the DMK-government said that NEET will be scrapped. We have decided to step out in protest. We will support the NEET resolution,” Palaniswami said.

He further alleged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) was responsible for the death of the 19-year-old medical candidate.

The former CM said, “Students and their parents were completely confused about the conduct of NEET exam here. No clear stand has been taken by the DMK government on NEET. Yesterday, a student, Danush, committed suicide. DMK is responsible for this.”

A 19-year-old medical candidate was found dead at his home in Salem, hours before the NEET exam.
