NEP will turn India into a knowledge superpower: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

NS New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 The Union Minister for Education and Skill Development Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said that it will turn India into a global knowledge superpower. He was addressing the 61st Foundation Day of NCERT through video conferencing.

Pradhan congratulated NCERT on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of NCERT in improving the quality of education. Acknowledging the milestones of NCERT in its journey from bringing the National Curriculum Framework for school education to an alternative academic calendar to facilitate learning during the pandemic, he said that NCERT should be taken up in a big way in education as envisaged in NEP 2020. You must be ready to bring about change.

Subhash Sarkar highlighted the importance of the three swans logo and translated the motto, which means ‘Eternal life through learning’. Appreciating the wonderfully memorable service of NCERT as a resource center for research, development and training, he said that 42 lakh teachers have been trained under the Nishtha initiative.

He stressed on the role of integration of vocational and academic education to achieve the roles of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Skill India. He recalled that the Prime Minister had said that the NEP would contribute to a new India. The role of NCERT is indispensable in this regard.

Minister of State for Education Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said that Foundation Day is an occasion to rejoice in the past, introspect and plan for the future. Through entertaining fables, he appreciated the flexibility for regular review of material and adaptations in NCERTs that contribute to the joy of learning. Recalling the incidents of cleaning the school premises collectively from their school days, he hoped that the new curriculum would inculcate a sense of belonging towards the schools among the learners. It will also strengthen the concept of Swasth Bharat programme.

Pro. Sridhar Srivastava, Director (Independent Charge), NCERT presented a brief account of the achievements of the Council over the past six decades, which include Regional Institutes of Education at its constituent units- Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Shillong and Mysore. NCERT is working on the areas of research, curriculum development, curriculum, curriculum and training material in face-to-face and online mode. Important recent initiatives include assessment of students through the National Achievement Survey (NAS). Developing learning outcomes, creating e-content in all subject areas for all stages of school education. Another milestone of achievement includes the development of the ECCE curriculum and guidelines.
