Netherlands beat India U-17 women’s football team

India The under-17 women’s football team lost to the Netherlands 1-5 in the opening match of the Open Nordic tournament WU-16 at Strollen Arena in Norway on Friday, July 1, 2022.

The Netherlands stunned the Indian defense in the opening minutes as Ilaiah Dostmohamed’s pace proved to be too much. Ilai found the net in the 5th minute and three minutes later, Eva Alberink tied the rebound ball home to make it 2–0 for the Dutch.

In the 12th minute, Young Tigers pulled back once from Neha’s shot. She went face-to-face with goalkeeper Brenda Badenhope, found a place inside the box, and made no mistake keeping her at home.

Head coach Thomas Dennerby made the first substitution for India in the 32nd minute as Naketa replaced Sudha Tirkey.

In the 33rd minute, Netherlands captain Vierle Berman scored a free-kick from about 35 yards to level the Dutch 3-1. Before going into the break, Neha tried to score another goal, but her effort was collected again by Brenda. The half-time score read 3-1 in favor of the Netherlands.

Coach Dennerby made another change in the 48th minute by bringing in Shailaja in place of Babina Devi.

In the 52nd minute, a penalty shot from Netherlands captain Vierle went to the bottom right corner to level 4-1.

Dennerby made back-to-back changes as Kajol and Shubhangi Singh were replaced by Regia Devi and Shelia Devi respectively.

In the 67th minute, substitute Mirte Koppen extended his team’s lead to five goals in matching Netherlands goal with a header from inside the box.

India’s last attempt was made by Astam, whose free-kick missed the target in the 72nd minute with a mustache from the left flank. Denby made the last change in the game to bring in Gladys in place of Neha as the full-time scoreline was 5-1.
