‘Never bow down to terrorists’: Dutch MP urges Indians to support Nupur Sharma after remarks on Prophet

Amid a massive backlash from Islamic nations for his statements about Prophet Muhammad, former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma has got the support of Geert Wilders, a far-right leader from the Netherlands.

The Dutch MP called on Indians to “never bow down to Islamic terrorists like Al Qaeda” as they represent barbarism.

He also said that Nupur Sharma was telling the truth when she made the remarks and termed the anger of Islamic countries as “ridiculous”.

“Appeasement never works. It will only make things worse. So my dear friends of India, don’t be afraid of Islamic countries. Stand up for freedom and be proud and determined to defend your statesman #NupurSharma. [sic]He said in a later tweet.

He called the opposing nations “hypocrites”, adding that they had no democracy, rule of law or freedom and “persecuted minorities and violated human rights like no other”.

Geert Wilders is a far-right leader from the Netherlands. He is the founder of the Party for Freedom, the third largest party in the country, and has been its leader in the House of Representatives since 1998. Wilders is known for his criticism of Islam.

Nupur Sharma controversy

Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma has come under criticism for her remarks on Prophet Muhammad during a TV news debate. The remarks sparked a major controversy and several cases were registered against him for hurting religious sentiments.

The BJP attempted to distance itself from the controversy and suspended Sharma. It also issued a statement saying that it respects all religions and strongly condemns the insult of any religious personality. Sharma then unconditionally withdrew his controversial statement.

The matter quickly rose on the international front, with many Islamic countries condemning the remarks on the prophet.
