Mahindra says the Z101 has been designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai, and engineered at the state-of-the-art facilities at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai. The company has also released a teaser video of the SUV which shows the employees acknowledging their contribution in the making of this SUV.
Also, the teaser of Z101 and subsequent promotional material will feature the voice of legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan. Mahindra hasn’t revealed any details about the upcoming new SUV, however, we believe that the Z101 could actually be the next generation Scorpio that has been in development for a very long time.
The teaser image on the Mahindra website shows a slightly curved overall design in comparison to the current-gen Scorpio, which makes the Z101 look surprisingly similar New-Gen Scorpio Test mules that have been seen across the country in the past. However, the same is yet to be confirmed by the brand. The car also gets LED projector headlamps as well as LED fog lamps with C-shaped LED DRLs.
As of now, the current-gen Scorpio has no direct rival in the Indian market but faces competition from similarly priced SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos among others. However, the introduction of new-gen models with modern bits and pieces, a longer feature list and powerful turbocharged engines may give the mid-size SUV a run for their money.
