National People’s Party (NPPE) chairman Konrad K. Meghalaya said on Monday that the next government in Meghalaya headed by him would have eight ministers from his party, while allies would get four ministerial posts. Outgoing Naukri Meghalaya, after a meeting with coalition partners, said on the initiative that NPP ally UDP will have two ministers, while Indian People’s Party (BJP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) will get one ministerial berth each.

As per rules, Meghalaya, which has a 60-member assembly, cannot have more than 12 ministers, including members. The NPP president is scheduled to be sworn in on Tuesday. He is supported by 45 likes. Megha has staked claim to form the government in the ghost state. Megha said, “During the meeting of NPP-led alliance partners, the first decision taken by the partnership is that it will claim Meghalaya as ‘Democratic Alliance 2.0’ as there are equal rights. Will be the chairman of the active alliance.

He said that the distribution of proximity among the alliance partners has also been finalised. “Out of the 12-member cabinet, eight ministers will be from the NPP, while two ministerial berths will go to the UDP and one each to the HSPP and the BJP,” Megha said, adding that the name of the candidate for the post of the chairman of the allied alliance would be announced. Will be done after further consultation with allies.
