Karachi: A few hours after being made Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President, Former Captain Ramiz Raja An increase of Rs 1,00,000 has been ordered in the monthly retainers of all domestic players.
The PCB said that 192 players with domestic contracts will be given a pay hike with immediate effect.
The increase in monthly retainers will now enable domestic players to earn between 140,000 and 250,000 per month in first-class and grade-11 competitions.
The PCB said that the new chairman, ordering a hike in the salaries of all categories of players, means that those in the lowest D category will see their monthly retainer increase by about 250 per cent.
“It is our duty to look after our cricketers and continue to take measures that strengthen our system,” Ramiz said.
“It will also play a role in eliminating any uncertainty around the current cricket structure; the welfare of current and former cricketers is of paramount importance to me.”
The new chairman also said that the board will soon start an Under-19 T20 league to strengthen the age-group structure and ensure that the young cricketers are fully equipped for the modern-day game.
Ramiz also promised major improvements in the quality of pitches in domestic cricket, stressing that bowlers have to work harder to pick up wickets and batsmen are given conditions where they can score big scores.
