A new prototype model of Kia’s upcoming 3-row vehicle was spotted testing in India, and the badging on the car’s steering wheel suggests that the vehicle will be called the Kia Carence.

Kia India is all set to unveil its new three-row vehicle on December 16, 2021. While it is not clear whether the new model is an MPV or an SUV, we do know that it will be based on the same platform as the Kia. Seltos, Now, a set of new spy pictures of the car have been leaked online and based on the badging visible on the steering wheel of the car, the new model will be named Kia Carens. Now, we already suspected that the model would be called the Cairns. According to the Patent Design and Trademark website of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Kia Corporation registered the name Cairns in December 2020, and the trademark has been granted to the company.

Also, the name itself is not new. kias Carens sold a compact MPV in Korea between 1999 and 2018, however, globally it was more commonly known as the Kia Rondo. It is likely that Kia will showcase the pre-production model of the vehicle on December 16, while the production version will be launched in 2022.
The car gets a leather wrapped, three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with the Kia logo at the centre, and the Carence badge at the base.
As for the car, spy photos show a left-hand-drive model with an automatic shifter lever and leather-wrapped, three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. While at the center we have the new Kia logo, at the base of the middle spokes we see the Cairns logo. The fact that the company is testing a left-handed vehicle also indicates that the model will be launched in Korea and other global markets as well.

All the test mules of the vehicle we’ve seen so far are heavily camouflaged, so it’s hard to talk about its design, however, based on what we can see, the vehicle sports large LED headlights, sporty dual-tone alloys Will come with wheels, and LED taillamps. It will also get a pair of roof rails, but they don’t look like load-baring ones. As for the cabin, it will come with a large touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the Kia UVO connected car system along with other creature comforts.

Powertrain options and other technical details are still unknown, however, we would expect the vehicle to come in both petrol and diesel engine options, with manual and automatic options for both. When launched, it is likely to compete with Toyota Innova Crysta, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV700.
