A British bank has started a four-day work week without deducting the wages of all employees. Atom Bank says it is the largest UK company to offer a four-day work week without a pay cut.

CEO Mark Mullen explained that the policy, effective November 1, was introduced to help improve employee well-being. BBC,

Employees now work 34 hours a week instead of the 37.5 hours they had earlier expected. Moving to a four-day work week is voluntary, and employees who take advantage of it are expected to work longer hours in the office.

CEO Mark Mullen said in a statement, “While we appreciate the four-day work week for all workplaces, the move to work from home has proven that work practices that may have seemed years away, They can be introduced faster.” “We strongly believe that this will prove beneficial to the well-being and happiness of our employees and will have an equally positive impact on business productivity and customer experience.”

According to CNNMost of the 430 employees of Atom Bank have switched to the new working week. Most employees are expected to take a Monday or Friday off, except for employees in operational and service roles – who may have to change their days to ensure customer service is not affected.

Mr. Mullen said the COVID pandemic showed the world that the traditional work week was getting old.

“Before Covid, the conventional wisdom was that you had to sit at a desk all day and repeat that process when you got home,” he told the BBC. “Covid showed us that it wasn’t necessary… I think doing 9-5, Monday through Friday, is a very old way of working.”

Researchers in Iceland recently found a short work week to be a “massive success” in the country. Study participants reduced their work week by three to five hours without taking a pay cut, according to a bloomberg report good. At the end of the test, more than 90% of workers said they want to permanently shorten their work week because it allows them to focus on personal well-being while maintaining productivity.
