Newly elected MLAs of Gujarat will take oath today

An official said that the newly elected legislators of the Gujarat Assembly will take oath on Monday, the first day of the two-day session. He told that the election for the post of President and Vice President will be held tomorrow, Tuesday.

Speaking to PTI, DM Patel said Pro-tem speaker and BJP’s senior-most legislator Yogesh Patel, secretary of the Gujarat Assembly, will administer oath to 182 MLAs in the first session of the 15th assembly in state capital Gandhinagar on Monday.

He said that on Tuesday, the second day of the two-day session, the new members would meet to elect the Speaker.

According to an official notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the elections for the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be held on Tuesday in the first fortnight and other business will be held in the second fortnight.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won the state for the seventh consecutive time with a record mandate in the recent elections, has declared Shankar Chowdhary and Jethabhai Bharwad as its candidates for the post of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

The new entrants include 11 former ministers. The cabinet ministers include Kanu Desai, Hrishikesh Patel, Raghavji Patel, Balwant Singh Rajput, Kunvarji Bavaliya, Mulu Bera, Kuber Dindor and Bhanuben Babaria. Harsh Shanghvi and Jagdish Vishwakarma took oath as ministers of state with independent charge.

The six other ministers of state are Parshottam Solanki, Bachchu Khabar, Mukesh Patel, Praful Pansheriya, Kuvarji Halpati and Bhikhusinh Parmar. Patel was sworn in as the 18th chief minister by Governor Acharya Devvrat at a ceremony held at the helipad ground near the new secretariat.
