The alleged incident took place when people with IDD and their caretakers had gone to Bangalore’s Golahalli railway station to inquire about the railway stations.

A day after a video clip threatening to assault persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) allegedly by a railway official went viral on various social media platforms, a complaint was filed with the Karnataka State Disabled Act Commissioner. Is.

In the complaint, city-based NGO Snehadhara Foundation claimed that the person with IDD and his caretakers had gone to Golahalli railway station to inquire about the railway stations. Railway officials objected to his presence. This sparked a debate between Snehdhara founder Geetanjali Govindarajan and railway officials.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager Kusuma Hariprasad said that an explanation has been sought from the station in-charge officer. He said that if any lapse is found on the part of the officer, necessary action would be taken.

Ms. Geetanjali told Hindu, “We have filed a written complaint with the Karnataka State Disabled Act Commissioner. Ever since the video went viral, we have heard from various origin groups and aid groups expressing their displeasure.

“After this incident, I came to know that railway officials are offering to make arrangements for travel to the station. But it is not a matter of concession, it is about their right to access such public places like anyone else. Why do we need to think so much when it comes to children with special needs compared with adults?

“All the persons who went to the railway station have Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), which is invisible compared to physical disabilities,” she said.
